Herb J. Smith is Professor
of English at Southern Polytechnic State University, where he is currently the Director of Undedrgraduate Studies. Dr. Smith has been teaching
technical and professional communication for 28 years. He was
Gastprofessur of Technical Writing (Spring 1998) at Fachhochschule
Merseburg, Germany, and was principal author of a National Science
Foundation grant. Smith has published widely in most of the major
technical communication journals. His textbook "Portfolios for Technical and Professional Communicators," co-authored by Dr. Kim Haimes-Korn, provides detailed information about paper and electronic portfolios for professional communicators. It also showcases the works of students in the department's degree-granting programs.
